Start with a nice bunch of Mustard Greens. The leaves should be nice and green. These greens can be purchased prepackaged; however, it is very difficult to check the quality of the leaves. Take about six leaves and place them in a bowl of water, clean the leaves change the water, and clean the leaves until the water becomes clear. (My last bunch of greens was full of sand.) Use two carrots from the bunch. The carrots should be long and thin carrots with nice fresh green tops. Wash both the carrots and carrot tops, and cut into pieces. (All my birds love the carrot tops cut up in their daily food). Cut up corn on the cob, and cut off some corn. Some birds like eating the corn off the cob; others like just eating corn. Three and1/2 ears of corn are used at our house for this recipe. Wash and cut up broccoli. (The amount depends upon what other fruits and vegetables. If I have two large stalks, I use the crowns of one quarter of one crown.)
The fresh fruits in this issue, June 2003, are coming from my plum tree. I picked twelve plums the size of a fifty cent coin. All plums had no blemishes. The plums were washed, and then cut up, not leaving any pits for the birds. (Warning: the pits from the plums are toxic to birds.) Set aside all vegetables, except for the corn. Heat the corn in the microwave.
Take a quarter cup of multiple dried bean legume mix.( Kidney beans, chick peas, black eyed peas, navy beans, green peas, lima beans, and I am sure there are others.) Soak over night in water. Before serving, drain bean-legume mix, and cover with four tablespoons of canned coconut milk from the health food store. (Canned coconut milk from the standard grocery store has too much sugar. No sugar is added to the coconut milk from the health food store.) Take the bean-legume/coated with coconut milk and pour on to warm corn. Then place the rest of the vegetable mix in bowl with corn and bean mix. Stir the contents well. Add the cut up slices of bread. Add the two heaping tablespoons of Foundation Formula.
Again, mix all ingredients, and serve to your birds.
Bon Appetite!
